Items 4, 5 and 6 are mutually exclusive. Separate original papers must be used for each item.

Credit points may be allocated to any advertised conferences, seminars, and courses, as determined by the Board of Trustees.  Criteria for credit point requirements for Fellowship may be changed from time to time.  Special cases may attract higher points upon consideration by the Board of Trustees.

Guidelines for Fellowship Papers

These must fit within the following criteria

The purpose of the paper is to (one or more of the following)

 Length of paper must be approximately 3000 words and a specific paper must be prepared for the Fellowship. This may be based on previous research.

4. Demonstration of practical activities.

All candidates for the qualification of Fellow of the Academy meets the Points criteria of the AAPSM to demonstrate practical involvement in the area of Sports Podiatry over a twelve-month period of active AAPSM membership. 150 points are required. The A.A.P.S.M. State Director is responsible for verification of the points accrued for members in his State. When applying to undertake examination, the Member is to present their Log Book of points to their State Director for verification prior to lodgment.

Each of the above requirements must be met within a two-year period commencing from the date on which the first examination is attempted.

These requirements may be reviewed from time and new requirements will be published in the AAPSM Newsletter or on this web page. In the event of dispute regarding examination results, right of appeal shall be to the full Board of Trustees, and any appeal will be held at the Meeting of the Board of Trustees next held after receipt of such appeal. No Examiner will be a member of this Board.

2. Examination requirements.

Two examinations must be successfully attempted.  The first examination is a closed book supervised paper that has been previously trial tested through existing Fellows. The format of the first examination paper is multiple-choice questions with some short answer questions. Pass mark for this examination is 75%. The second examination consists of clinical based, written answer questions with a pass mark of 75%.

 

3. Publication of Fellowship paper.

This is an original case study, assignment or research paper in standard format of a minimum of 3000 words. This must be presented and accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal prior to the granting of the Fellowship award.

A. Members are student or registered podiatrists who pay an annual membership fee.

 


Q.   What is required for a member to become a Fellow?

A.    A Fellow must meet the following requirements;

1. Professional requirements.

 Prior to attempting the examinations a prospective candidate will;

  • have held status as a financial member of the Academy for 12 months
  • be a financial member of an Australian Podiatry Association
  • confirm four years relevant clinical experience post initial Podiatric registration
  • hold a relevant Post Graduate Diploma or equivalent approved by the Board of Trustees
